Date and Time to be Announced

With Dr. Elaine Weintraub
by Alum /Author Joycelyn Coleman

Morning tour of the Oak Bluffs section of the African American Heritage Trail. That would be scheduled for 10 am and we could end the tour at Ms Jocelyn Coleman’s house (Morgan Class of ‘67) which is a site on the Trail. If your group is staying in Oak Bluffs then it would make sense for us to end the tour at Ms. Jocelyn so that she could do her presentation and share her story of being a member of the Coleman family. If however, your group would need transport after Ms Jocelyn’s presentation we can do that too. Meet at Oak Bluffs Ferry; end at Jocelyn Coleman’s House- 11 Myrtle, OB. The cost for the Oak Bluffs tour which lasts one and a half hours is $40 per person

Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, part of Massachusetts’ Cape Cod Islands, is one of several historic African American summer resort communities along the Atlantic seaboard founded in the 1890s. The “Inkwell” or Town Beach in Oak Bluffs is the name of the popular beach frequented by African Americans beginning in the late nineteenth century. The strand was pejoratively called “The Inkwell” by nearby whites in reference to the skin color of the beach-goers. It is the most famous of beaches across the U.S. to transform this odious nickname.

NEW DATE: 2024 Martha’s Vineyard General Public Internet Opening
For Martha’s Vineyard Travel ONLY
The 2024 general public opened on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at 8 a.m. Sign on early.

At that time, vehicle reservations for travel from May 15, 2024, through October 20, 2024 will be accepted.
The Steamship Authority will continue to closely monitor and actively manage the number of users allowed on the website during the opening to ensure the system is operating at an optimal level. This will be done through the use of a virtual waiting room that allows customers to see their “place” in line and the approximate wait time until they can make a transaction, eliminating the need for customers to continually refresh their browser.
Although summer automobile reservations will not be able to be made by phone during the online opening periods, the Reservation Office will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily should a customer need assistance with their login password or PIN.

Housing, Housing Housing!

Morgan on the Vineyard – August 4-11, 2024

Housing and accommodations are challenging in August on the Vineyard. Make your plans now! Do not delay!

Renting homes for the week is the primary method of staying and vacationing on the Vineyard. For shorter stays, there are a limited number of hotels.

SummerCamp Hotel provides one of the better values at $700-$900/night. Hotel stays work for short 2-3 days for individuals. For longer stays and multiple people, you may want to consider renting a house for the week.

Below are the names of individuals who can assist with coordinating housing.
